Before me personally comes David Hixon who being duly sworn says that he is a resident of Walker County GA and was a resident of said state and county for five years prior to his enlistment that his occupation was that of a farmer for five years previous to his enlistment and has been the same from this time of his discharge to the present time that he mover to Dekalb County Alabama in the fall of 1867and remained there about four years and at the time his post office address was valley head Ala that he returned to Walker Co GA in 1873and his present address is High Point Walker Co. Ga.

I was attacked with diarrhea at Nashville Tenn in the spring of 1864 which lasted me three months and in July of the same year I was taken with sore eyes and was totally blind for three months and to my best recollection it was in October of same year before I could see my way; but suffering all the time with diarrhea and every two or (twelve ??) days since then I have had attacks of diarrhea which confines me to

my bed for suffering with acute pains to my bowels. During these attacks my eyes are (sand filled??) but are always sore ____ ________ .

I received medical treatment while in Nashvill Tenn. In the spring of 1864 for chron-

ic diarrhea but do not remember the name of the surgeon but was in general hospital for three weeks- and after I returned to my command received a furlough for sixty days. And when I returned to my command

( a carrot with maybe" no mending"? above- ) received an extension of furlough for sixty days more and while I was home I was treated for chronic sore eyes by Drs Sims and Hamilton of Chattanooga Tenn. Dr Hamilton is dead but Dr Sims still lives in Chattanooga Tenn. I now have attacks of diarrhea about every month which lasts five or six days with acute pain in my bowels. I have received very little benefit from medical treatment ___ into regard to my sore eyes or diarrhea.

I labor at ____ (some?) light work about one third of my time such as hurding stocks or dropping grainand that only in pleasant weather .in cold or hot weather I have to keep indoors on account of my eyes and suffer
