AFFIDAVIT OF WILLIAM WILSON

STATE OF GEORGIA,

WALKER COUNTY.

William Wilson, of Walker county, Georgia, whose post- office address is Alton Park, Tennessee, R.F.D. ____, being first duly sworn, deposes and says:

I am 86 years of age, and was born in Monroe county, Tennessee. I moved with my father, Booker Wilson, to this place, in Walker county, Georgia, in 1837, when I was about ten years old. I have lived ever since, except about three years during the war. When I came here they were gathering up the Indians to take them away.I personally knew some of the Indians and half bloods who belonged to the Cherokee tribe. Among these were Andy and John McPherson and Tim Hixon and his brothers. Tim Hixon was an arrow maker of the Cherokee tribe, and was recognized by the Cherokees and white people as of Indian blood, and as a member of the Cherokee Tribe. He sometimes came to my father’s home, and we knew him well. Andy McPherson went away with the Cherokees. Tim Hixon remained here, and to the best of my recollection died here about the beginning of the Civil War. I have been acquainted with the applicant, David H. Hixon for several years, living within about 1 mile of him. I knew his father, George Hixon, and his grandfather, Dave Hixon, who was a son of the aboved names Tim Hixon, the Cherokee arrow maker. They all lived in Walker county, Georgia, from Lookout mountain eastward, in McLe-more’s Cove, and in the country about Rossville and Chickamauga, Ga.
